The dashboard has been around for as long as the car itself. Instrumentation and displays have remained predominanlty analogue but recently we have seen an increase in development of in car computer dashboard displays. Back in the 1980′s we saw a trend of digital speedometers but these quickly died out and became rather passé. Nissan have in their flagship GTR shown what is possible.
The display offers a plethora of useful information to the driver and also contains a satellite navigation system. The display still renders analogue style gauges with digital information and looks more like a console game display than an in car display. We hope to see more manufacturers going digital and using high resolution TFT displays in cars.
